Na No Wri Mo

Ok I think I will try this. A 50,000-word novel in 30 days. Fuckit this reminds me of the 24hr. comic. And I think it will kill my writer’s block so I will give it a good old collage try.

Wow yea Maz, I forgot about this thing.

Dam well I have been up to a lot work

ChopShop Main Site
There are some big things in the workings fro the ChopShop site. Two huge things will be done in the next couple of months. And as soon as we have a date locked down it will be posted here first.

1. ChoppaCast: Some of the ChopShop team will speak their option. We will be talking about comics, events we will be attending, and anything else that springs up in our tainted minds.

2. BusStop Blues is a comic strip for the site. The newest member of the ChopShop team Justin provides the art. This is for all you out there that ride the bus. Right now we have some hardware issues that I’m trying to work out. Once I get that problem fixed, we will be good to go. Plus right now Justin is cranking out some strips. So we have a few built up for the launch.

3. Comics Section: Yep a rebuild of the comics section. Just us here at ChopShop trying to make our site better for you the fan. It will have full copies of most of the ChopShop library. Most notably will be full color versions of GearBot #1 and soon after #2. Plus stories from both issues of Random and one from the upcoming Random # 3.

4. The contest!
We are thinking about extending the deadline. It’s not official as of this moment. So still try and get your art in by the deadline. We are discussing it with all of ChopShop. The entrees that make it in by the Oct. 10 deadline do get special consideration.

Merchandise

1. Ok the long awaited ChopShop T-shirt. Yes we have some in the works. In the first wave there will not be a shirt with just our logo on it. We are working on getting one out there for you. You can’t imagine how hard it is to get a high quality shirt at a reasonable price. We don’t want to give you a piece of shit T-shirt but it shouldn’t cost an arm & leg either.

2. More comics: Yes as always ChopShop is working on more comics.
Random #3
And the book we started on 24Hr. comic day.

I think that’s enough to tide you over for a couple of days.

Todd talking about comics

Today Levi and I went to a really cool bookstore and listened to Spawn creator Todd McFarlane and Larry Marder, creator of Beanworld and president of McFarlane Toys, for a discussion of the rise of the graphic novel. It was interesting to hear Todd & Larry’s thoughts on what graphic novel are and where they are going. They pointed out some good book's like Blankets, Torso, Watchmen, and Sincity. It was also good to hear that Todd will be writing and directing the new Sawn movie. He said writing/ production would start some time next year. Hearing Todd call himself a geek was neat and that all the money he has did not go to his head. The relationship between sports fans and guys who go to midnight showings of Starwars was a cool peace logic put out by Todd also.

It’s late and I got to crash.
Late.

Revenge of the Lucas!

Belyn and I went to a 12:01 showing of revenge of the sith. Over all it’s the best out of the three newer films, Jedi is still the best star wars film ever made. I think if Lucas would have had some one else direct this one it would have been a whole lot better. After seeing this movie I’m still not convinced of having every set a grandiose 3D special effect. Every shot was way to chaotic, I think sky captain had the same problem. The wide shots look stunning but anything up close is just busy. Don’t get me wrong the 3d was spectacular in every shot as always. But they need to spend time to make them seam more realistic and not this amazing landscape with five billion things going on. It was distracting trying to look at all the work put in to the sets and to pay attention to some of the acting. From what I remember the confusing sets might have been they’re for that purpose alone. McGregor & Jackson did fantastic but every one else just did not have the hart. Maybe if Liam Neeson were in the film he could have jump-started the rest of the cast like in episode one. He was the best actor to ever dawn the Jedi robes. Well that’s the end of my rant on star wars. In other news the update will be done soon. If you don’t like what I said about star wars let me know. O and Tim I will say you half one the bet. So I owe you 10 bucks.

Free Comic Day

Today was free comic day. The Chop Shop Comics crew was hanging out at samurai comics. We had a lot of fun and gave a way random #0. When we showed up the guys from lions, tigers, and bears http://www.runemasterstudios.com/ltb.php where hanging out. It’s a cool book. Then one of my favorite artists showed up Chris Giarrusso http://www.chrisgcomics.com/ . For you that don’t know him he’s the guy who did the bullpen bits, and mini marvel, and now his own book G-Man. I got a cool sketch from him and enjoyed talking to him. That’s all for now.

Yea Pic's! The Crew getting ready to bail out.

24hrs of hell

Yea I agree with Maz, they are hard. Last year I showed up about half wayand ended up helping them finish it up. I had a great time both years. It was a lot fun hanging out at the samurai all night long. Plus I think when we finish the book that was stared it will kick ass. It was a blast working with Maz and Belyn for the first time. Hope we end up doing it more often. There was this guy Denis I ended sitting next to. He had a kick ass comic from what I got to see. I did not end up getting his site. If I end up finding out it is. I will slap up the link here for you all. All in all it was a blast and can’t wait for next year.

I will try and get some of the picks up in the next few days so you guys can se how much fun it was.

Launch and some stuff about comics

The new posting section of ChopShop Comics is now up. Ok so it’s a Blog. But isn’t a post the same thing as a Blog? I think saying “I just posted” Is a lot better that saying “I just Bloged”. Enough about that if you like this think let us know over at the forum.

On to better subjects comics, I just picked up the new fables graphic novel over at samurai comics today. I missed some issues and the entire run is in the forth graphic novel. If you have not had a chance to check this book out you should. Its one of the best comics I have read, the first story arc tells you about how they all came to live in New York. Some one called the adversary takes over the fable lands and kills all who don’t escape to the mundane world. I think one of the best parts of the book is how they all had to adjust to living among “mundys”. (Used as a derogatory label towards any one who is not a fable.) They hint at a farm where all the fables that can pass as human are living like the three little pigs and Shere khan. Then in the second arc they take you there and flush out that part of the world really well. At the end of two arcs there is a rich and complex world to tell a lot of interesting stories. So far they are doing a superb job at takeing all the characters from the old fairy tales and putting them into interesting new stories. If you pick it up let me know what you think of it.

Some Anizona Pic's

Here are some picks from Anizona. I thought this would be a good place to post them.

We even had a crowd!
